Man attacked with a hammer after visiting cemetery

Police have received a report that a 24-year-old man had been attacked by a gang as he left a west Belfast cemetery.

The attack is believed to have happened at about 2.30pm on Thursday, and was reported the following evening.

The victim said he was leaving the City Cemetery in west Belfast when his path was blocked by a number of masked males in a white coloured Hyundai car.

The PSNI said: “Three of the males then exited the car and one of them assaulted the man with a hammer.

“He was treated in hospital for a number of injuries to his leg as a result.

“Detective Constable McKeown is appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident or anyone who has any information that can assist with the investigation to contact Detectives in Musgrave Police Station on 101.

“Information can also be passed anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
