Man sentenced over July 12 rioting in city

Have your say

A 20-year-old man from east Belfast who threw a number of missiles at police lines during serious street disorder last July was yesterday ordered to spend 12 months in a young offenders centre.

Jordan John Gorman, from Camlough Place, will spend an additional 12 months on supervised licence when he is released from detention, after admitting to a charge of rioting in the lower Newtownwards Road area of the city on July 12 last year.

Images of those involved in rioting were circulated and Gorman was identified by a police officer.

When he was interviewed last October, he admitted his guilt.

Clive Neville, the solicitor representing Gorman, told Belfast Crown Court his client was sorry for his actions.
