Mourners told to wear their leathers at tragic rider's funeral

More than 500 vehicles are expected to accompany promising young motorbike star Malachi Mitchell-Thomas on his final journey at his funeral tomorrow in Chorley, England.

Mitchell-Thomas, from Adlington, near Chorley, died on Saturday May 14 after losing control of his Burrows Engineering Kawasaki during the third lap of the Supertwins race at the North West 200 in Portrush.

He was just 20 years old.

A Facebook post on the site ‘Malachi’s Final Journey May 24’ says: “At 14:30 Malachi will start his final journey from Horwich to Charnock Richard (crematorium in Chorley). If anyone wants a ride out, bikes or cars, he would love the noise and your company!”

The service is taking place at 4pm.

“Donations to the Irish Air Ambulance fund in lieu of flowers please, there will be a collection box at the crematorium,” it adds.

“The wake will be held at Kilhey Court Hotel, Chorley, Standish, WN1 2XN straight after the service.

“All welcome to attend and raise a glass to a remarkable young man. There are rooms available for those of you travelling a distance.”

It asks those hoping to attend to “feel free to wear your Racing Team Wear, doesn’t matter what team, let’s make it look like a racing paddock!!!”.
