Pedestrian '˜seriously' injured in Co Antrim collision

A pedestrian was taken to hospital with 'serious injuries' after being struck by a car in the early hours of today.

The PSNI said the accident involved one vehicle, and happened on The Burn Road, between Templepatrick and Ballyclare.

A spokesman from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said they received a call about the incident at 12.15am and arrived at the scene around ten minutes later.

“We got reports of a pedestrian having been hit by a car and we took him to Antrim Area Hospital with serious injuries,” he said.

A PSNI spokesman this morning said the Burn Road has now reopened to traffic.

He said the pedestrian injured in the collision was aged in his 50s and suffered “injuries which are believed to be serious but not life threatening”.

The man was transferred from Antrim Area Hospital to the Royal Victoria Hospital where his condition has been described as “serious”.
