Police attacked with stones by around 30 youths in Newry

Police have reported coming under attack from a large group of stone-throwing youths while on patrol in Newry on Friday evening.

Officers were in the Nursery Drive/Parkland area when the incident - described by the PSNI as “senseless attack” - took place.

A message posted on the PSNI’s Newry and Mourne Facebook said around 30 youths were involved. It also said that two cars belonging to members of the public were damaged by the stone-throwers.

Police have appealed for help in identifying those involved and are asking anyone with information to contact Ardmore station on the non-emergency 101 number.

A further appeal has been made for parents to be aware of where their children are, what they are doing, and to impress upon them the possible consequences of engaging in this anti-social behaviour.
