Sex and torture pair facing 15 years

Two young men who tortured and sexually assaulted their friend at a flat in the Stranmillis area of Belfast have been warned that they could face a potential sentence of 15 years for their actions.

Belfast Crown Court heard how the duo subjected their victim to “exceptional degradation” during which he was tied up, threatened at knifepoint, locked in a cupboard, subjected to several serious sexual assaults and had cigarettes put out on him.

The two attackers – Darren Fu, 19, from Drumart Walk in Belfast, and a co-accused from Co Antrim who cannot be named due to a reporting restriction – were friends with the victim and they all shared an interest in music.

The young man’s ordeal occurred on May 30, 2014 when he went to Fu’s flat.

Fu later admitted four offences – namely false imprisonment, two counts of sexual assault, and rape. His co-accused pleaded guilty to six counts including false imprisonment, two counts of sexual assault and attempted rape.

Judge Kerr said he would sentence Fu and the co-accused on February 22.
