Ulster Unionist event examines Easter 1916 in Dublin

An event examining the turmoil of Easter 1916 in Dublin from a unionist perspective is being held in the city on April 6.

Hosted by the Ulster Unionist Party, it will bring together academic and religious leaders to focus on the “causes, consequences and legacy” of the rebellion.

Speakers include UUP leader Mike Nesbitt, Professor Geoffrey Sloan (University of Reading) and Prof Graham Walker of Queen’s University Belfast.

“It was always our intention to make this as open and inclusive an event as possible. The guest list will include representatives of major political parties from both jurisdictions as well as academics, journalists, commentators, church leaders and members of our own party.”

The event is taking place at the Royal Irish Academy.
