Offended by cleric’s gay lobby remarks

I HAVE read with despair some of the clearly anti-gay letters that have been printed over the last number of weeks and have managed to bite my lip.

However, the letter from Rev E T Kirkland, from Ballyclare, (August 11) took things to a whole new level.

In his letter he likened the “homosexual lobby” to the “rise of fascism in Germany”.

As a member of the LGBT community, I find this offensive. Can the Rev Kirkland point out one incident where a heterosexual person was beaten up, raped or, in the worst cases, murdered because of their sexuality?

I have never heard of such incidents. I have, sadly, heard of people from the LGBT community suffering from such attacks.

If the “homosexual lobby” were “fascists”, wouldn’t heterosexual people be suffering such attacks on a daily basis? So is it people with views like his own who are the fascists?

In the Second World War, the Nazis sent homosexuals to concentration camps.

So to liken us to these people is pathetic!
