WHAT never ceases to amaze me is the ability of young earth creationists, like the Caleb Foundation Chair Wallace Thompson, to quote one supposed fact whilst completely ignoring another.
Mr Wallace criticises Alex Kane’s very reasoned and balanced opinion piece on the Giant’s Causeway exhibition for ignoring the suggestion that some scientists apparently accept a young earth explanation of the origins of the world.
However, at no point does Mr Wallace concede that many, possibly most, Christians - even evangelical Christians - do not hold to his “young earth” view of Creation.
And in keeping with his own analysis, it could be said that the likes of the Caleb Foundation seeks to hide such a fact, seeking only to portray their own narrow view.
At no stage does Mr Wallace or the Caleb Foundation ever give credence or recognition to an old earth creationist explanation held by many Christians.
So yet again, Mr Wallace exemplifies the need for the biblical warning to ‘be careful of looking for specs in other people’s eyes, when the same or worse may be in your own’.
