Paramilitary shooting in Londonderry

A 40-year-old man has been shot in both ankles in a paramilitary style shooting in the Creggan area of Londonderry, the police have confirmed.

A PSNI spokesperson said: Police are appealing for information following a paramilitary type shooting that occurred in the Culdaff Gardens area of Derry/Londonderry on the evening of Monday 29 August.

“At approximately 10.35pm, police received a report that a 40 year old man had been shot in both ankles in the area. It is believed that four masked men were involved in the shooting. The 40 year old man has been taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.”

Chief Inspector Gordon McCalmont said: “I would ask anyone with any information about this shooting to contact detectives at Strand Road Police Station on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 1403 of 29/08/16. Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
