Parts of pipe bombs found in Strabane searches

Detectives investigating dissident republican activity have found component parts of pipe bombs during searches in Strabane today.

The PSNI said a number of searches were carried out on Friday in the town.

Superintendent Mark McEwan said: “A number of areas in and around Strabane town were searched as part of our ongoing investigations into the activities of violent dissident republicans.

“During one of these searches in the Fountain Street area, items suspected to be component parts of pipe bombs were seized.

“The items have now been taken away for forensic examination.”
