NOW that Mike Nesbitt has been elected as leader of the Ulster Unionist Party, it is time for members of the UUP, particularly the Assembly’s Ulster Unionist MLAs, to unite behind the new leader and to heal the rift between the party and Lady Sylvia Hermon.
The UUP can do wonders if it remains united and works with its former sister party, ie, the Conservative Party. The Ulster Unionist members of the House of Lords like Lord Empey do a good job in speaking up for Northern Ireland, as does Lord Trimble.
I wish Mike Nesbitt well in his new post and hope he does much to reform the UUP and make it a party for the 21st century.
