Police probe Belfast 'machete' assault

Police say they are continuing to investigate a suspected machete attack which took place in Belfast..

The serious assault occurred on the Andersonstown Road Monday (March 27) and was reported to police shortly before 11:30 pm.

Detective Sergeant Keith Wilson said: "A 30-year-old man was getting out of his car when he was approached by two males. One of the males then struck the victim on the hand with what was described as a machete before punching him in the face. He was taken to hospital for treatment to a wound to his hand and bruising to his face."

Police are particularly keen to speak with the occupants of a white coloured jeep that was travelling on Andersonstown Road around the time of the assault

DS Wilson added: "I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the assault or anyone who has any information that can assist with the investigation to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 1367 of 27/03/17 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
