Policitians’ shock at police woman’s death

POLITICIANS have expressed their shock and sadness at the death of young female police officer who died after an accident involving a suspected stolen vehilce in Londonderry.

UUP Polciing Board Member, Ross Hussey said the PSNI deserve the full support of the community as they come to terms with the tragic death.

“I am extremely shocked and saddened to hear of the death a young policewoman in Londonderry early this morning,” he said.

“I would like to pass on my heartfelt sympathies to the family, friends and colleagues of this officer.

“We can only imagine the pain that they must be feeling. I hope that her injured colleagues make a speedy recovery.

“This young woman`s death in the line of duty serves to re-emphasise the dangers faced by the officers of the Police Service of Northern Ireland on a daily basis, as they put themselves in harm`s way to protect the whole community. They deserve our full support.”

SDLP MP Mark Durkan said: “I am saddened by the tragic death of this young female officer, tragically killed in the line of duty whilst doing her job to protect the community.

“My sympathies go out to her family and friends at this very difficult time, as they struggle to come to terms with this tragic news. My thoughts are also with the wider police family, not least those who were on duty alongside her, who have lost both a friend and a colleague.

“The accident appears to involve a stolen car. The shock felt across the community will be matched with disgust that such criminal activity has led to this tragic death, and I call on those responsible, or anyone who has any information, to come forward to the PSNI.”

Alliance Justice spokesperson Stewart Dickson MLA, said: “I am saddened that a Police Officer has lost her life in the line of duty. She was doing her job, serving her community and ensuring the safety of the public at the time of her death.

“I would like to extend my condolences to her family at what must be a difficult time for them.

“The death of Constable Reynolds shows the fatal consequences of car crime.”
