The DUP has criticised a top republican politician over his comments about Anglo-Irish relations.

DUP MEP Diane Dodds was reacting to remarks made by Fianna Fail leader Michael Martin, in which he accused the two governments of failing to take advantage of their closer relations to address the remaining Northern Irish peace process issues.

In response, Ms Dodds yesterday agreed the two nations’ relationship had improved greatly.

But she added that “if Mr Martin really wants to contribute to progress then he could finally accept the need for an apology from the Irish government for its role in the formation, funding and training of the Provisional IRA”.
