Brethren urged to 'reject deal'

AN Orange pressure group has urged members of the Order to protest against the Hillsborough Agreement.

Orange Reformation said last night that it is encouraging Orangemen to make their feelings known about the "parades situation" ahead of a special Grand Lodge meeting called for Saturday, March 6, in Tamnamore Orange Hall.

The group said that it feared that the meeting has been convened to try to gain the approval of Grand Lodge to enter a deal with Sinn Fein over parades. A previous meeting had reportedly heated debate on the matter.

"Orange Reformation is worried that many brethren will walk away from the Order should Grand Lodge accept the Hillsborough deal. It is wrong and the Orange Order should have the courage to say it is wrong."

A spokesman for the Orange Order said: "The Hillsborough Agreement is a matter for the politicians. We are interested in the parading aspect of the agreement and will be considering that in due course."
