DUP MPs have expenses claims reimbursed

FIVE DUP MPs are to be reimbursed by the Fees Office following a Westminster report into their expenses.

The party last night released details of the revised amounts of

expenses their MPs have repaid. Seven of their nine MPs were

originally asked to pay back amounts as part of Sir Thomas Legg's audit of expenses and five of those have now had their figures reduced.

South Antrim MP Willie McCrea was originally asked to repay 5,329. His figure now stands at 3,789.

The final figure for Strangford MP Iris Robinson is 1,974.17 which is 300 less than she was originally asked to pay.

The amount for Lagan Valley MP Jeffrey Donaldson is 1,858, a reduction of around 800.

East Londonderry MP Gregory Campbell has returned 2,656. He did not challenge Sir Thomas' findings.

Neither did North Antrim's Ian Paisley who has returned 1,181.94.

Upper Bann MP David Simpson who originally returned 400 and First Minister Peter Robinson, the East Belfast MP who returned 299, have no repayments to make and will be reimbursed for the amounts they have paid back.

Other MPs who made payments based on Sir Thomas's original audit will now be refunded in line with his final assessment.

No DUP MPs are to appeal the findings. A DUP spokesperson said this "maintained our consistent approach that we would comply with requests for repayment".
