Ignore us at your peril - victims
VICTIMS of terrorism have welcomed the European election result, warning that unionist politicians "ignore them at their peril".
Families Acting for Innocent Relatives (FAIR) director William Frazer said that the election result demonstrated a "strong vein of opposition to the inclusion of Sinn Fein/IRA in government".
He said that the election message was that more than 66,000 unionists who voted for Jim Allister, "many of them victims and their families", will no longer tolerate the "appeasement and inclusion of terrorists in government".
"As a victims group, we have remained above politics, offering to meet each of the unionist candidates," he said.
"We wish to take that opportunity to raise a range of victims issues such as European funding, the Eames-Bradley process and human rights."
Mr Frazer said that Conservatives and Unionists' MEP Jim Nicholson and TUV leader Jim Allister had met FAIR in two "very positive" meetings but, he claimed, DUP MEP Diane Dodds had declined the group's invitation to have a meeting.
"We feel that such behaviour did nothing to help the present electoral fortunes of the DUP and we would once more say to them, as we have said to other unionist parties, we must be listened to."
A DUP spokesman said that Mrs Dodds had not received the FAIR invitation and had met with other victims' groups.
