‘Majority of Catholics happy to remain part of UK’

Northern Ireland’s First Minister Peter Robinson said he believes most Catholics here want Northern Ireland to remain as part of the UK.

The DUP leader told delegates at his party conference on Saturday that he thinks the majority of Catholics favour the status quo and would not vote for a United Ireland.

He referred to Irish Minister Simon Coveney’s visit to the conference the previous day, saying it highlighted the “normalisation” of society here.

Mr Robinson said the Republic is now seen as a good neighbour, not a threat.
