Media expenses coverage attacked
THE media's coverage of expense claims by MPs and MLAs was unfair, Mr Robinson claims.
While last month Mr Robinson's wife Iris, the DUP MP for Strangford, described reporting of the claims — which in her case included a claim for a 300 Montblanc pen — as a "witch hunt", Mr Robinson describes the controversy which flowed from MPs claims being leaked as "Press-inspired campaigning".
"We've had a difficult time with the expenses issue. I think we've come out the other side of that," he says.
"The auditors who were brought in by the House of Commons I think will put us in a very strong position with a lot of the Press-inspired campaigning will be seen in terms of the auditors' report to be without foundation.
"From our point of view we are the ones who have been at the forefront of seeking to have changes so that Parliament never gets to this position again.
"I think the more politicians stay out of setting their own terms and conditions, pay and expenses, the better...I think that many of us would be very annoyed if Sir Christopher's (Kelly) proposals were not properly implemented.
