Two SDLP candidates for Lagan River and Banbridge area have said they are disappointed at receiving “intimidating” mail from a group calling themselves “Dromore Unionist Voice”.

Maureen Litter and councillor Marie Hamilton said they were “deeply disappointed that anyone would want to exclude us from the democratic process by removing election posters and posting intimidating mail”.

The candidates said the mail sent to them stated Dromore Unionist Voice was a peaceful group “yet the language incorporated in the two leaflets indicates they want to exclude certain groups of people from the district’s political arena”.

The SDLP pair added: “We would question why their views are of more value than those of any other citizen.”
