Royal Assent for new legislation on the appointment of special advisors was the first item to be dealt with during the new Assembly term.
Making the announcement yesterday, the Speaker informed MLAs that the Spad bill – dubbed ‘Ann’s Law’ after Ann Travers – had now completed the final step to becoming law.
TUV leader Jim Allister said: “Today’s announcement marks the end of a parliamentary process which began almost two years ago, following the scandalous appointment of Mary McArdle. But for the courage and tenacity of Ann Travers this great wrong would never have been righted.”
Mr Allister also marked the birth of Prince George by wishing him good health.
