Appeal after serious sexual assault in Belfast City centre

A 21-year-old woman has been the victim of a serious sexual assault in Belfast City Centre during the early hours of Saturday.

A PSNI spokesman said: “It was reported that sometime around midnight the woman was walking along an alleyway just off Royal Avenue and adjacent to Castle Court Shopping Centre when she was approached from behind by an unknown male who sexually assaulted her.

“The male is described as black, aged in mid 30’s, approximately 5ft 6ins tall, of thin build and wearing navy coloured jeans and a checked shirt.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone who was in Royal Avenue at the time of the assault and saw a woman walking in the area is asked to contact the PSNI.

Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact Detectives in the Rape Crime Unit in Ladas Drive on the non-emergency number 101.
