Detectives investigating the attempted murder and serious sexual assault of an eight-year-old girl in Newry in 1994 are appealing for three potential witnesses to come forward.
The girl was playing with a friend close to Barcroft Community Centre on June 10, 1994 when she was approached by an unknown male in his late teens or early twenties. He separated her from her friend and took her to an area of woodland within Daisy Hill Nursery where he assaulted her.
Police believe the attacker also spoke to two young boys in the community centre grounds just before the attack. They are asking for the boys, now aged in their twenties or thirties, to come forward.
Police are also keen to speak to a couple who were walking near Daisy Hill Nursery the same day, when they may have been approached by a distressed young boy who asked for directions to Barcroft Community Centre.
