Attack on Orange hall ‘shameful’, says Order

Ballycastle Orange Hall was targeted by vandals

Ballycastle Orange Hall was targeted by vandals

The daubing of sectarian graffiti on an Orange Hall near Ballycastle has been slammed as “juvenile and unacceptable.”

An Irish Tricolour flag was also erected outside the building at Coleraine Road. Police were alerted to the incident during the early hours of Saturday morning, and are appealing for information. The attack was condemned by the Orange Order, who blasted it as “another shameful example of republican intolerance towards the Institution.”

A spokesman said: “Not content with opposing our traditional parades, their hate-fuelled sectarian campaign continues by targeting Orange property. They must not be allowed to succeed.” The spokesman also called on police to devote more resources to preventing such hate crime. Local SDLP councillor Donal Cunningham said: “No one in Ballycastle wants to be associated with this type of juvenile and unacceptable action.”
