Beaten teenager out of intensive care

A DISABLED teen who was beaten and left for dead has been moved out of the intensive care unit at Belfast’s Royal Victoria Hospital.

The severity of Scott Vineer’s medical condition was downgraded from “critical” to “stable” yesterday afternoon for the first time since his unconscious body was found in Lisburn on September 6.

He has now been moved out of intensive care, but is continuing to receive treatment.

If Mr Vineer’s condition improves further it could herald a major breakthrough in the case, which has left detectives stumped.

Mr Vineer, aged 17, a student at South East Regional College in Lisburn, suffers from autism.

He was attacked after going missing on September 5.

But the circumstances of the attack – and what he was doing in the almost 30 hours that preceded it – have remained shrouded in mystery.

Police said Mr Vineer is not “responding to verbal stimulus” and is not yet fit to be interviewed over the attack.
