The search for a missing Portadown angler in Co Westmeath was again suspended as darkness fell on Wednesday evening.

Daryl Burke, 30, was one of three fishermen whose boat capsized on Lough Ree last Thursday.

David Warnock from Armagh was pulled from the water but died later in hospital.

The third man, John Trimble, is reported to be recovering from his ordeal.

All three men – members of the Portadown Pikers angling club – were embarking on a fishing and camping trip when the weather suddenly deteriorated.

Members of Mr Burke’s family have remained in Westmeath supporting search teams who are continuing their efforts to locate the missing man.

Last night Sean McCarry of the NI Community Rescue Service said no further items have been recovered and there was no trace of Mr Burke on Wednesday.

“We found nothing at all, but we’ll be back tomorrow. We’ll keep plugging away,” Mr McCarry said.

Rescue teams are planning to remain on Lough Ree for as long as required.
