A young boy hit by a car in Lisburn yesterday was last night critically ill.

The child, reported to be around six years of age, is being treated in the intensive care unit of the Royal Victoria Hospital.

A second boy around the same age was also treated in hospital but is understood to have non-life threatening injuries.

The collision happened in Railway Street in the city centre around 3.35pm.

Traffic was diverted away from that section of the one-way system for several hours while specialist accident investigators examined the scene.
