A civilian CCTV operator hasbeen accused of training a police camera used for monitoring an interface area into the living room of a young woman’s apartment for his own sexual gratification.

The woman, now in her mid-20s, told the Belfast Crown Court jury that after being made aware of the alleged offences, she barely left the house and is still receiving counselling.

Ciaran McCleave, 50, from Collinward Gardens in Newtownabbey, is facing a total of eight charges linked to a period spanning from October 20, 2012 to November 20, 2012.

According to the Crown, McCleave used a camera – whose default was normally set to a junction on the Whitewell Road and Shore Road in north Belfast – and directed it into the woman’s first floor apartment for a total of 79 minutes over a 26-day period.

On one occasion, the woman was viewed walking around her living room in just a pair of black thongs after coming out of the shower.

McCleave, who denies all the charges, was a CCTV operator working at Antrim Road PSNI station.

When arrested McCleave told police he believed the woman’s flat was a party house where drugs might have been sold.

At hearing.
