Two Cliftonville players have complained of sectarian abuse and a death threat as they watched a match at Windsor Park on Saturday.
Liam Boyce said one Linfield supporter had threatened to “cut our throats” as he watched the Blues take on Glentoran in the company of team mate Conor Devlin.
Commenting on Twitter after the game, Boyce said: “All fans were dead on and having a bit of banter but there is always one to ruin it.”
The player said they decided to ask for a police escort from the ground after the threat. Another post by Boyce on Twitter said: “The irony is that a Linfield player was friendly enough to give us his tickets. Still in shock.”
He claims the abusive supporter was a man in his 30s with three friends and a child of around 12.
One Linfield fan who responded told Boyce the incident was “disgraceful”. He said: “Shame on those idiots. Not all blues fans are the same.”
A spokeswoman for the PSNI said: “At this stage there have been no complaints made to police.”
