NORTHERN Ireland’s Justice Minister David Ford has condemned the murder of a Garda officer in Co Louth and has pledged to continue cross-border efforts to tackle criminal gangs.

Det Garda Adrian Donohoe, was shot during an attempted robbery at a Credit Union in Bellurgan on Friday night.

Mr Ford said: “I condemn this brutal murder of Garda Donohoe and offer my deepest sympathies to his family and fellow Garda officers.

“I have spoken to Justice Minister Alan Shatter and reinforced my commitment for both jurisdictions to work together against criminal gangs and protect our communities.

“Anyone with information should pass it to the appropriate authorities so these dangerous people can be brought before the courts.”
