East Londonderry MLA David McClarty’s funeral will take place this afternoon in his home town of Coleraine.
The independent Assemblyman, whose death on Friday morning after a battle with cancer led to warm tributes from across the political spectrum, will be buried in nearby Portstewart.
The former Ulster Unionist’s funeral will be held at midday in Killowen Parish Church, where he sang in the choir.
Mr McClarty, who is survived by his wife Norma, sons Alan and Colin, and three grandchildren, was a former UUP chief whip and a former Assembly Deputy Speaker.
The MLA left a list of nominees to fill his Assembly seat. The Electoral Office is expected to contact those people in the coming days and, if one of them accepts, there will not be a by-election.
