DUP MEP Diane Dodds has claimed that she has the best record of Northern Ireland’s three European Parliament representatives.
The former West Belfast MLA said that she had an “unrivalled” record as a public representative, arguing that she had done better than either UUP MEP Jim Nicholson or Sinn Fein MEP Martina Anderson.
And Mrs Dodds claimed that she also had a better record in Europe than either of her DUP predecessors – party founder Ian Paisley and former MEP Jim Allister – highlighting that she was the first MEP to produce funding directories for businesses and churches which she said had seen £6 million secured.
She said that Northern Ireland needed a strong voice in Europe: “My record over the last five years speaks for itself.
“When it comes to work in Brussels and Strasbourg, my report card is unrivalled, by both our current MEPs and by those who went before me.
“I am the top rated Northern Ireland MEP, in the top five UK MEPs and the top 10 per cent of all MEPs when it comes to my record in the European Parliament.”
