More than 70 people have signed a book of condolence for a Limavady resident killed while working as a security contractor in Afghanistan last week.

Simon Chase was one of 21 people killed in a Taliban attack on a restaurant in Kabul.

Originally from Liverpool, the former soldier had lived in Limavady with his fiancee Norma McDowell and two sons for a number of years.

The book, which was opened at Limavady council offices on Wednesday, will be taken to the funeral and later presented to the family.

It is understood Mr Chase’s body may be repatriated this weekend, but the Foreign Office said they do not release details of that nature.

They confirmed they are still providing consular assistance to the family.
