The sudden death of a 20-year-old man in Banbridge has “sent shockwaves around the area”.
The young man has been named in a Sunday paper as Matthew Dougan.
Upper Bann DUP MLA Stephen Moutray said the young man’s death had been the “sole subject” of conversation in the area since his death on Friday evening.
Earlier it emerged that police are investigating a possible drugs link to his death at a house in the Cline Road area of the Co Down town.
Police said another male was taken to hospital from the same house and is described as being in a stable condition.
A PSNI spokeswoman added that their investigation is in the very early stages and said they are awaiting the results of a post-mortem and toxicology tests.
Mr Moutray said: “The death has absolutely shocked people to the core, but there are people out there who are prepared to peddle drugs to young people.
“Those that peddle drugs within our community are a scourge, and I would urge people with any information whatsoever relating to this to pass it to the police or pass it to elected representatives who are more than willing to act as intermediaries.”
Upper Bann SDLP MLA Delores Kelly said she “felt for the family of this young man who are left with so many questions”.
