Gregory Campbell has called on a newly elected councillor in Londonderry to state his views on the conviction of a dissident republican for terrorist offences.
The East Londonderry MP said Councillor Gary Donnelly should “make his position clear” on the guilty plea of Nathan Hastings – who admitted having explosives and guns in the city in April last year.
Mr Campbell said Cllr Donnelly has been associated with the “so-called dissident republican cause” in the city for several years.
He said public representatives should stand against violence, and added: “It is time for a clear statement from the new councillor on his approach to terrorism.”
The News Letter attempted to contact Cllr Donnelly last night but was unsuccessful.
