An elderly couple were wakened in their Newry home on Saturday night when their bedroom was forced open by two men, one carrying an iron bar.
The incident happened in their home on the Newtown Road around midnight.
The pensioners were not injured, but left shaken, after their ordeal.
A PSNI spokesman said: “It was reported that an elderly couple were in bed at around midnight when they were disturbed by a noise in the house. Their bedroom door was then forced open and two men entered the bedroom. One of the men was carrying an iron bar and the other was carrying a torch. The men demanded money from the couple before making off with a handbag containing a sum of cash.”
