Diane Dodds has been re-elected as an MEP on transfers of TUV leader Jim Allister, as counting of European election ballots entered a second afternoon at the King’s Hall in Belfast.

As the count, which has been dogged with delays continued, Chief Electoral Officer Graham Shields announced the DUP MEPs’ re-election part way through the redistribution of Mr Allister’s transfers.

Sources told the News Letter that a narrow majority of Mr Allister’s votes were transferring to the DUP candidate, rather than to the UUP’s Jim Nicholson.

In the 2009 European election, a majority of Mr Allister’s transfers went to the UUP.
