South Antrim MP Rev William McCrea has said it is “very encouraging” that Diane Dodds increased her share of the vote in her re-election as MEP.

Rev McCrea was speaking from the count at the King’s Hall in south Belfast.

Asked by the News Letter whether, as someone who is perceived as being on the conservative wing of the DUP, he had any attraction to Jim Allister’s party after the TUV’s strong European showing, Mr McCrea replied no, that he was a loyal DUP man who had been there at the party’s founding in 1971.

Rev McCrea also pointed out that Mr Allister’s percentage share of the vote had gone down since 2009.
