A couple and their three children have escaped injury in a gun attack in north Belfast.

A north Belfast family have been left ‘shaken’ after a number of shots were fired at a man as he opened the front door of his home.

Police received a report that the shooting happened in the Velsheda Court area of Ardoyne around 10pm last night.

The man was uninjured in the attack.

A woman and three children were inside the property at the time.

The windscreen of a car sitting at the property was smashed before the gunman made off on foot through an alleyway to Cranbrook Court where police believe he may have got into a white coloured car to leave the area.

PSNI Inspector Ian Lockyer said the family have been “left badly shaken” after the incident.

He appealed for anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have noticed any suspicious activity or who has any information which may be of assistance to our investigation to contact CID at Tennent Street on the non emergency number 101. Information can also be passed anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
