Main routes running between Belfast and the south-west of the Province suffered closure today following accidents which included a fatal collision in the Dungannon area.

It involved a collision between a lorry and a tractor, although it is not known at this stage which he was driving.

The dual carriageway (A4) running from Dungannon to Ballygawley is closed in the wake of the tragedy, which was reported to police at 10.20am.

Elsewhere today, there was another road traffic accident on in the Sprucefield area, which took place about half an hour after the Dungannon one.

As a result of that, police closed the M1 between Sprucefield and Junction 6.

It re-opened around lunchtime.

One individual was reported to have been taken to hospital with sore arms and legs.

After that, at around 12.15pm, there was a crash causing two minor injuries in Dunmurry, a couple of miles to the north.

This involved two vehicles and happened on the main Creighton Road, which was closed as a result.

It re-opened before 2pm.

At 12.50pm, at the same accident site, there was another collision between two vehicles.

Police said this was small and resulted in no injuries.

All of this follows a fatal accident involving a man in his 80s in the Pomeroy area on Tuesday, in which a man is thought to have been struck by a tractor.

In addition, a woman died after her car plunged into the canal in Newry on Tuesday.
