Samuel Sheppard, a former Governor of the Apprentice Boys of Derry, has died after a short illness.

The Londonderry man was involved with the loyal orders in the Maiden City for upwards of 50 years and he served as Apprentice Boys governor from 1986 to 1991.

He held many offices on the general and parent committees of the Apprentice Boys and he was also District Master of No 4 District LOL on the West Bank of the city and a member of the City of Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge.

Apprentice Boys General Secretary William Moore paid this heartfelt tribute: “Sam’s reassuring smile, warm good nature and kind friendship will be sadly missed by many who valued and respected his guidance and advice.”
