Four teenagers arrested in PSNI sting operation

Four youths aged between 13-years and 17-years old have been arrested following a police operation to track a suspected stolen vehicle in Belfast.

On Saturday around midday officers responded to a report that a green Volkswagen Golf - suspected to have been stolen in North Belfast area recently - was seen in the areas of Crumlin, Ballysillan, Carlisle Circus and the Westlink.

A PSNI spokesman said: “The PSNI Air Support Unit helicopter traced these sightings for officers on the ground who were able to stop the car on the Suffolk Road by using a stinger device.

“The occupants of the car made off on foot but were detained by police a short time later. A police dog was also deployed.

“One officer suffered a shoulder injury during the arrest operation and required hospital treatment.

“The car was recovered by police and the four youths remain in custody.”
