School teacher and hockey coach Lesley Scates, who died following a road crash near Comber last Wednesday, will be buried in the Co Down town next week.
Mrs Scates is the wife of Bangor Football Club manager Garth Scates.
A statement from the club said everyone connected with the Bangor and Castle Juniors teams was thinking of the family at this very sad time.
As a mark of respect, the Bangor v Coagh United game scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed.
The funeral will take place at Second Comber Presbyterian Church on Monday at 11am.
Mrs Scates taught PE at Nendrum College.
She was an under-16 Ulster hockey player, had a spell with North Down, and was a former captain of Belfast Harlequins.
She also ran the Stick2Hockey children’s coaching courses along with Kelli Thornton.
Last night Mrs Thornton said the Scates’ family was quietly trying to come to terms with the tragedy.
“They are devastated. We have just given them all a bit of space. They are just trying to get through it on their own,” she said.
In a tribute to her friend and business partner, Mrs Thornton added: “She touched so many people’s lives – a wonderful person, mother, wife, friend, teacher, coach.”
Mrs Scates – who leaves two children, Gabriella and Elliott – was also well-known through involvement with the Girls’ Brigade,
Husband Garth previously played for Linfield and Ballymena. The teams will observe a minute’s silence ahead of playing each other tomorrow.
