Gales and rain, but no snow this Christmas

High winds are expected

The Met Office has issued a wind warning for Northern Ireland for Christmas Eve – but there’s no sign of snow.

Winds will start building from early this morning with gusts of up 57mph and heavy rain this afternoon. From early tomorrow very strong winds will pass across Scotland and Northern Ireland with the likelihood of widespread gales and gusts to around 70mph.

Winds may reach 90mph, particularly in the north west, where there will also be frequent wintry showers. The Met Office has warned of possible significant travel disruption across all of Northern Ireland.

Christmas Day and Boxing Day will see much weaker winds with the odd shower.
