He might be European super-bantamweight champion, but yesterday loved-up Carl Frampton pulled no punches when he married his childhood sweetheart, Christine Dorrian.

At 2pm yesterday the couple – 26-year-old Carl from Tiger’s Bay and 25-year-old Christine from Poleglass – tied the knot in a non-religious humanist service in The Old Inn in Crawfordsburn, Co Down.

The couple met seven years ago in Kelly’s nightclub in Portrush when they were both teenagers.

They have a two-year-old daughter Carla.

Bride Christine was dressed in a fairytale white dress with a diamond studded bodice, whilst her bridesmaids wore black embellished dresses.

Toddler Carla also wore a white dress during the “intimate and relaxed service”.

The toddler also said a few words at the end of the ceremony.

Meanwhile, bestman Paddy Barnes, a dual Olympic medalist, was joined by groomsmen Shane McGuigan and Jake McGuigan – who both work as part of his coaching and management team – and Carl’s brother-in-law Ciaran Magennis.

Wedding guest and News Letter reporter Nicky Fullerton said: “It was obvious today that Carl and Christine have great feelings for each other and their daughter.

“They are childhood sweethearts, meeting in Kelly’s when they were 17-years-old. The ceremony today was very laid back and chilled out.

“Carl said it was a great day because he was marrying the girl of his dreams.

“He said it had been a big eight days for him because he won the fight and now he is marrying the girl of his dreams.

“Everything is going so well he is just delighted and looking forward to their honeymoon in Thailand. They are going on Wednesday.

“He also said it was good to have family and friends around him on such an important day.

“I have known Carl for around four years. He is a great fella and she is a nice girl.”

Around 100 close friends and family attended the wedding service, which lasted around 15 minutes.

Among them was Carl’s manager, former world champion Barry McGuigan.

A further 50 guests attended the evening reception, among them veteran television personality Jackie Fullerton.

Since the couple met Carl has seen a meteoric rise in his boxing career from international amateur to professional boxer most recently becoming the European super-bantamweight champion.

He is now setting his sights on becoming world champion under the guidance of manager McGuigan.
