THE Sovereign Grand Master of the Royal Black Institution paid tribute to the Queen as well as blasting gay marriage at the smallest demonstration to take place at the weekend.

Millar Farr was speaking at the north and west Tyrone demonstration that was held at Plumbridge for the first time since 1958.

There were around 1,000 members of the institution on parade in 24 preceptories accompanied by 22 bands from Strabane, Castlederg and Omagh.

They were addressed by Mr Farr at the demonstration field, who spoke fondly of the Queen, and said her Diamond Jubilee has “united the people of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth in a display of loyalty and affection”.

“We give thanks for her exceptional leadership, commitment and dedicated service throughout those 60 years and also for the support the Royal family, especially Prince Philip, have provided over that period,” he said, before voicing concern over gay marriage which, he said, will “change the meaning of marriage as we know it”.

“In God’s law there is no provision for same-sex marriage,” he said. “Holy scripture is quite clear on the subject – marriage is between male and female only.

“While man-made laws can be changed, God’s law is unchangeable. How politicians can imagine they have the right to create legislation which is contrary to holy scripture is beyond belief.”
