Graffiti has appeared in a Co Tyrone village warning landlords not to take foreigners as tenants.
The stencilled words appeared on a wall in Moygashel: “Attention landlords. Leasing property to foreign nationals will not be tolerated.”
The move came a day after a flag for the US white supremacist group the Ku Klux Klan was taken down in east Belfast.
Michelle Gildernew, Sinn Fein MP for Fermanagh and South Tyrone, called for the immediate removal of the Moygashel message.
“The painting of this racist message is extremely sinister,” she said, adding: “Those behind it have taken the time and effort to stencil this message threatening landlords who would rent property to foreign nationals.”
The effect was to “instil fear into anyone from an ethnic background living in or near the town”.
She reported it to police.
