The number of female award recipients outstripped male ones this year, for what is believed to be the first time.
Men accounted for 39 of the awards on the Northern Ireland list while 40 were women, according to Kellie Sprott, honours secretary for Northern Ireland.
She said that their aim is now to make the previously male-dominated New Year Honours 50-50 each year.
And one of the many ladies on the list is veteran Australian broadcaster Candy Devine – who is getting an MBE under her real name of Faye McLeod.
Earlier this year she announced she was leaving Downtown Radio – where she has been broadcasting since 1976 – to return to Australia.
Mrs Sprott added that the only Northern Irish county not represented on the list is Fermanagh, adding it was “just the way it worked out this year”.
