Hundreds at Gaza protest in Royal Ave

Arrests made

Arrests made

A couple of hundred people gathered outside a number of top stores in Belfast’s Royal Avenue to protest at the situation in Gaza.

The protestors stood outside Marks and Spencers, Tescos and McDonalds for around ten minutes at each location between 5pm and 6pm tonight.

A PSNI spokesperson said no damage was done, no one was evacuated from any shops and no arrests were made.

Belfast DUP Cllr Ruth Patterson said: “Given that it is late night shopping and the intimidatory nature of this protest, it was off-putting for shoppers to enter shops.

“It doesn’t do our city centre any good. I hope that Belfast City Centre management will take this situation on board and treat it with the seriousness it deserves.”

The News Letter rang Tesco in Royal Avenue but they did not want to comment.
